Matt, the most important thing about your canopy...in my opinion is the lighting part of it, as in the reflector, once you get some plans, make sure you purchase or make a good reflector if you want the best reflection...with that 20k bulb, you don't want to waste light...I'm wondering about possibly you incorporating a T5 bulb into it? Although I'm not aware of anyone doing this, the T5 reflector is a GREAT reflector. I'll get you some plans if I can for a 29 gallon canopy.

Yes, I am interested as well.
Wow, a 250 in a 29g. Have you considered a chiller also?
I have 3xs250w 20k and 4x55w actinic in my 125 and when the 250's are running, it gets pretty warm ... and the lights are placed 18" above the surface.

mjc, 250 is fine over a 29gal. Now he doesn't need a heater hehe.
Yes, this should be an open back canopy with fans (cool via evaporation) or perhaps a pendant would be a better choice. Also have you considerd how you will auto-topoff all that evaporated water? Perhaps a 3-4 bulb T5 system would be a better choice.

i have a coralife minimight over my 3.5 gal. it sits 8 inches above the water and i have two computer fans, one blows in and the other out. it keeps the temp at 74-75 all times. without it, temps reach 90. when the light is off it still remains the same. if i turn the fans off, the rio 50 i have creates enough heat to bring the temp to 78. the only bad thing about the fans, is that water evaporates soooooo much faster. i go through a gallon of topoff in a week. in small tank like mine, it's a lot.

Matt, the plans for the 30 gallon I gave to you, will also be ok for the 75 gallon. You'll see what I mean, when you check out the link...that's a cheap, inexpensive DIY hood...works good too, especially for the penny pinchers like myself.
