Marine Betta’s Peaceful???????

I also read an article in the same publication that referred to Marine Betta's as peaceful Community fish. I have seen these fish tear the sides out of Clown Triggers, Porcupine Puffers, Pomancthus sp. Angels, and many others. I have occassionally run across a fish that met this profile, but rarely.

How many of your have kept these fish for a few years, and feel you have some good first hand advice that may either substantiate my findings, or give me an idea of what I may need to do to keep the fish happy and non-aggressive.

I am interested in first hand information. But all information is welcome.

Marine Beta's will eat other fish, if they can fit in their mouth, usually they fit nice ;)

I wonder if the Betta's I have dealt with have been a little angry about shipping, and just taking it out on the ones closest to them. ha ha ha

I am trying to give these fish another chance at redeeming their "gentle" demeanor. So far, so good. 2 Weeks and no small fish loses in their tanks, but they are not the biggest fans of any foods at the moment either. Any suggestions to appeal to their sense of diet more. Live brine doesn't even get a second look.

I put it here to get some good first hand info, not a bunch of hoop-la. I read an article that referred to the Betta's as a very peacefull community fish, and I have not yet seen this to be true in my experience. Maybe they may remain peaceful if kept well fed and in a tank with no temptations in the form of small or timid fish.

I keep a 6" in my reef tank with a 2" mandarin for over 3 years and he barely comes out. Now he did kill one fish. Another Marine Betta. This was after a few folks said it would be okay. I would say only if you know you have a pair. I think I had 2 of the same sex.

I feed mine frozen brine when it comes out.

Marine Bettas are related to the grouper and will eat anything it can fit into its mouth.

I have a client with a Marine Betta. The MB can be shy and reclusive, I upgraded their tank to a 72G bowfront, added 40# of LR and the MB stayed in hiding for a few days before slowly venturing out to explore. It didn't come out for food, preferring to wait for food to drift by and accepting it then, but otherwise, it was content.

Your mileage may vary, but I'd suggest a 75g. Other sources will quote 50 to 60 as a minimum, but with my client's MB, she has it in a 72G bowfront. Previously, when she purchased it a year ago, she had it in a 28g (32?) eclipse.
