View Full Version : Tangs Fighting?

Tangs Are by Far My Favorite Fish. I Like All Types Of Tangs And Have 3 Tangs Right Now. People Say That My Tank Is To Small For Tangs But I Have Had A Hippo Tang And Yellow Tang For Two Months In A 38 Gallon Tank And They Are Both Healthy.

What Bothers Me Are The People Who Jump On You For Have A Tang In Only A 3 Foot Long Tank And All That... But If They Care About The Animals So Much Then Why Are They Keeping Them At All, I'm Sure The Stress Of Being Ripped Out Of They're Natural Enviroment By Divers And Being Moved To Tank To Tank Is Stressful. No Matter What The Size Of The Tank Is The Fish Is Still Going To Be Stressed, What About Walking Past The Tank That Scares The Fish. Isn't All This Stressful. Well That's My Opiniun And You Know What They Say About Opiniuns....

Well, Getting Back To Tangs I Was At The LFS Last Night And I Saw Two Amazingly Beautiful Tangs That I Have Never Seen Before. These Tangs Were A Salfin Tang And And Scopas Tang. I Decided That I Would Buy The Scopas Tang And Try It Out. Whne I Got Home I Added Him To My Tank Once He Was In The Tank For About An Hour My Yellow Tang Started Going After Him. Right Away I Signed On To AIM And Asked My Online Buddy And Most Of Them Told Me To Take Him Out Of The tank But Then I Asked If The Idea Of Putting Plexi Glass In The Tank Would Work. They Said Its Worth A Try So I Did It. I Seperated The Yellow Tang IN A Small Area Of The Tank And I Plan To Leave Him In That Area For A While.

These Are Some Reasons I Learned About Why Tangs Fight. One Reason Is "Tangs Seem To Be Something On The Order Of "I Eat Before You Eat. If I Am Hungry, You Should Be Hungrier." Quoted From CrlKeep. Another Thing Is All Tangs Fight If They Are The Same Color Or Shape/Genus. They Don't All Fight But Most Of The Time They Do. A Great Way To Reduce Stress Is To Get Them At The Same Time.

If You Have Any Experences With Tangs Please Share Them Here.

well with my i had a yellow tang that was very active but parished one night for an unkow casue. As for you i think that you are starting to see some of the effects of having 3 tangs in a 28 gallon tank. Do you plan on upgrading anythime soon or just having the 38?

I Do Plan On Upgrading As Soon As I Redo My Kicthen But This Will be Just Another Reason To Redo It Sooner.

I love Tangs myself. I have 2 Yellow, 1 Brown Scopas, and a Red Sea Sailfin. They all get along, after brief squabbles over dominance. Occassionally they argue, but I guess that happens to us as well, if we are forced to be closed up with the same people for long enough. More like cabin fever than aggression in my opinion.

LOL..... Yea But Whats Weird Was The Yellow Tangs Was Not Bitting The Scopas He Was Like Hip Checking Him And Swimming In Front Of Him.

srry for jumpin on yo case on RL nb2sb....... anyways, RL banned me and this and aquaticrrealms is prob my new best site. soooo, i dont know what a scops tang looks like, but heres the basic rules

2 tangs of the same body shape (ex. yellow tang and purple tang) will not get along together unless u havae about 4-5 of each. same applies for blue and kole, sailfin purple and yellow, etc. you said your yellow tang is fighting? i havd read that tangs ESPECIALLY yellow ones always fight over food. it should calm down when they are all in a big tank.

Good luck and Happy Reefing,

Matt

P.S. just curious, whats your filteratoin on ur 38 gal?

Hows the seaclone for ya??

11-21-2003, 04:38 PM
It's Really Good. I Just Dont Like The Sponge For The Maxi Jet Because You Have To Clean It Alot.

Have you modified the SeaClone or is it original?
