View Full Version : Starfish??
I Have Another Question That I Was Hoping That You All Would Be ABle To Answer, What Is A Good Starfish To Get Or A Good Sand Sifter/Front Glass Cleaner?
I won't not get a sandsifter starfish if you have a reef or pod eating fish as it will eat pods and other things that live in your sandbed. Good front tank cleaner would be snails like turbo snails. I have great exp with them!!!

Astrea snails are good glass cleaners. You can also get Nassarius Snails which will clean detritus and burrow in the sand. There is some good info on Cleanup Crews on Garf.org (http://www.garf.org). Check under Algae Central.

i like turbo snails, but i dont reccomend them for a nano...... long story why.............
o well, go tnoth ing else to do, ill tell ya the story:
i had a turbo snail for about 4 months then i added my small colony of yellow polyps from liveaquaria.com.
all was goin great for like 2 weeks then, IT HAPPENED!!!!
one night the snail wantered over the polyp colony, and ate 5 of the polyps. it squished the rest. so, i ended up wit a dead yellow polyp colony, and a poisoned dead snail...
i got a brittle star, great cleaner :-D
Happy Reefing,
Matt
Yea, I Am Probably Going To Get A Brittle Star. Are They Easy To Keep?
Yes they are for me at least. I would do some research and feel free to aks ?'s here about them if you like.
I Forgot Who But Someone Said That When A Brittle Star Gets Bigger It Will Eat Fish
It best to feed star fish so that does not happen!!!
What Do You Feed Them? How Do You Feed Them?

I Forgot Who But Someone Said That When A Brittle Star Gets Bigger It Will Eat Fish that was probably me that you heard that from. the green brittle starfish when they get big will hunt fish at night when there sleeping, but like zack said if kept feed good they might not. black brittles, sponge brittle stars, won't go after your fish. and serpents. about the only thing they might go for is small tube worms.

I got a new star for my tank today. We got some new ones in at the store and I am a big time sucker for cool brittle/serpents and this will make number 3 in my tank. Would have been four but I think one may have died. Here is a pic I thought I would share, one of my favs I have ever seen.

thanks I like him quite a bit. it was hard not to take the other cool ones and hog them all hahaha
For glass cleaning duties...Asteria Snails! Reeftopia has a 100 for 30.00 bucks! Obviously thats too many for a Nano but they sell them in smaller increments.
Sand sifting reef safe critters...Nassarious or Cerith snails! Again, Reeftopia has these for real cheap too!
BTW, nice strikingly colored Brittle Star! I am jealous to be sure!!! From my experience...once they get some good size to them irregardless of type brittle star, I would suggest throwing them a scooby snack every now and again to keep them honest. Just a suggestion.......

My star eats the leftover flake. As long as its happy and being fed it wont hurt a thing. I have a citron clown goby and my star is about 9 icnhes in diameter. he doesnt hurt a thing.
